Two People Watching TV

Sky Stream is Sky’s internet-based TV service that lets you watch Sky channels and all your favourite streaming apps without needing a satellite dish. I’ve put it to the test to save you the time and effort! Instead of traditional satellite TV, everything is streamed over Wi-Fi. It’s quickly become one of the easiest ways to enjoy Sky TV at home. And I can definitely see why, as this post will explore.

How does Sky Stream work?

In the UK, Sky Stream is officially available via sky.com/tv/stream and it’s ideal if you want a clean, straightforward TV setup without complicated installation or extra hardware. My Sky Stream came as a small streaming box that plugged straight into my TV using an HDMI cable. I simply linked it to my home broadband, signed in to my Sky account and I was ready to stream. There’s no satellite dish, no engineer visit and no drilling holes in walls. Everything runs over the internet, making Sky Stream a great option if you want a quick, stress-free setup. Instead of using a hard drive to record shows, Sky Stream uses a cloud-based playlist. This meant I could save shows, watch on demand and even restart live TV without worrying about running out of space.

What can you watch on Sky Stream?

Once connected to Sky Stream, you’ll have access to a wide range of live TV channels and on-demand content from Sky. It depends on your package, but mine includes entertainment, documentaries, kids’ TV and movies. Sky Stream offers two main TV packs:

  • Essential TV, with Sky Atlantic, Netflix with ads, discovery+, and 90+ channels.
  • Ultimate TV, which adds 42 extra premium channels like Sky Max and Sky Witness.

You can also add extras such as Sky Sports, Sky Cinema (including Paramount+), Sky Kids, TNT Sports and upgrade Netflix for ad-free HD. The great thing about Sky Stream is that it brings all your streaming apps together in one place. I’ve got easy access to Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and discovery+ through the same easy-to-use interface. And don’t worry, HD is included as standard, so everything looks great as soon as you connect your streaming box.

If you want to go a step further, you can upgrade to UHD and Dolby Atmos on compatible TVs to get an even better viewing experience. Trust me, it’s worth it! Is Sky Stream the same as Sky Glass? Sky Stream and Sky Glass use similar software but they’re not the same thing. Sky Glass is a TV with Sky built in, while Sky Stream is a separate device that works with any TV that has an HDMI port. So you can also keep your existing TV and still get the full Sky experience with Sky Stream.

Who is Sky Stream best for?

Choosing Sky Stream is a great option if you don’t want a satellite dish and prefer a simple streaming setup like me. As long as you have a stable internet connection, you can watch Sky TV and popular streaming apps all in one place.

Can you use Sky Stream outside the UK?

Officially a UK-only service, Sky Stream is geo-restricted, which means that it won’t work if you’re outside the UK. Although if you’re living abroad or travelling and can’t imagine being without your British TV, there’s no need to panic. You can use skystream.eu, which is aimed at international users and provides ways for Sky Stream to be accessed overseas.

Is Sky Stream worth it?

So, is Sky Stream worth it? It’s a definite yes for me, as it will be for many people in the UK who want great TV without any hassle. The service brings Sky channels and popular streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+ and BBC iPlayer together in one simple menu. There’s no satellite dish, no engineer visit and no bulky equipment. Just plug it in, connect to Wi-Fi and start watching.
